THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF BACTERIA NAMELY :-
- AEROBIC :- THE ONE WHICH NEEDS OXYGEN TO THRIVE
- ANAEROBIC :- THE ONE WHICH THRIVES IN OXYGEN FREE ATMOSPHERE.
IN THE MAIN SUMP OF ENGINE, DUE TO LACK OF OXYGEN THE ANAEROBIC BACTERIA THRIVES IN PRESENCE OF WATER PRESENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SUMP AND USE ORGANIC HYDROCARBONS AND ADDITIVES PRESENT IN LUB OIL AS FOD. THEY BREAK OIL CHANGE AND PRODUCE ACIDS AND SLUDGE AND PRODUCE STABLE SLUDGE, CORROSION CELLS AND HYDROGEN SULPHIDE. THESE BACTERIA’S ARE ALSO KNOWN AS SULPHATE REDUCING BACTERIA’S.
DETECTION :-
- CHOCKING OF FILTERS
- FOUL SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGG COMING FROM OIL.
- MUD LIKE DEPOSIT ON SURFACE OF THE OIL WHICH CAN BE DETECTED WHILE TAKING SOUNDING.
- SLUDGE ACCUMULATION ON CRANKCASE.
- SLIMY DEPOSIT ON JOURNAL AND CRANKCASE DOORS.
- DISCOLORATION OF OIL
- CRANKCASE HAVE YELLOW COLOR PATCHES.
- RUST FILM ON OIL SURFACE.
- CORROSION OF PURIFIER BOWL.
- LOSS OF PROPERTY OF LUBE OIL.
PREVENTION :-
- LUBE OIL PUMP SHOULD BE CONTINUOUSLY RUN TO AVOID ACCUMULATION OF WATER INSIDE THE SUMP.
- PURIFIER SHOULD BE RUN CONTINUOUSLY
- HEATING OF CRANKCASE SHOULD BE OPENED IN CASE LUBE OIL PUMP IS STOPPED.
- LUBE OIL IN STORAGE TANK SHOULD BE TREATED WITH BIO-CITES TO ELIMINATE THE GROWTH OF MICROBES.
- LUB OIL TESTING FOR MICROBES SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT FREQUENTLY.

Some times due to the Accidental or regular leakage of water into the lubricating oil system can lead to microbial infection .
So it is always recommended to take care of the leakage that can be due to various reasons.
