THE EFFECT OF SLIPPAGE OF CRANKSHAFT DEPEND ON THE LOCATION OF THE SLIPPAGE. IF THE SLIPPAGE IS NEAR THE FLYWHEEL I.E NEAR THE CHAIN DRIVE, THEN ALL THE UNITS ARE EFFECTED WHILE IF THE NO 2 WEB AND JOURNAL IS SLIPPED THEN UNIT 1 AND UNIT 2 ONLY WILL BE EFFECTED.
THE SLIPPAGE CAUSES FOLLOWING EFFECTS ON AFFECTED UNITS:-
- FUEL TIMING IS ALTERED.
- EXHAUST TIMING IS ALTERED.
TURBOCHARGER SURGING CAN OCCUR AND VIBRATION OCCURS IN ENGINE .
IF SLIP IS LESS THAN 5 DEGREE THAN THE FUEL AND EXHAUST VALVE CAM CAN BE ALTERED TO NEW POSITION BY HYDRAULICALLY EXPANDING AND ROTATING THE CAMS.
IF SLIPPAGE IS MORE THAN CRANKSHAFT SHOULD BE ROTATED.
