- TBN TEST :- BY PRESSURE RISE OF A TEST MIXTURE PLACED IN A SPECIAL INSTRUMENT . IT IS DUE TO CALCIUM REACTING WITH REAGENT. 10 ML OF SAMPLE+ 10 ML REAGENT IN TESTING CUP AND MIXED AND SEALED. PRESSURE RISE IS COMPARED IN CHART TO FIND TBN.
- WATER CONTENT TEST :- TAKE 5 ML OF SAMPLE AND ADD 15 ML OF TOULENE AND MIX THEM IN THE TEST CUP. THE CALCIUM CARBIDE IS ADDED AND THEN SEALED. WATER REACTS WITH CALCIUM CARBIDE TO FORM ACETYLENE GAS AND GIVES PRESSURE RISE WHICH IS DETECTED BY THE SPECIAL WATERCONTENT METER.
- WATER CRACKLE TEST :- 10 ML SAMPLE OF LUBE OIL IS TAKEN IN AN ALUMINIUM FOIL AND HEATED. IF WATER WILL BE PRESENT THEN CRACKLING SOUND WILL BE HEARD .
- VISCOSITY TEST :- TAKE 3 ML OF NEW OIL AND 3 ML OF USED OIL AT SAME TEMPERATURE. PLACE THEM IN THE FLOW STICK PROVIDED FOR THIS TEST AND TILT IT. WHEN NEW OIL HAS REACHED REFERENCE MARK, POSITION OF USED OIL GIVES CONDITION OF OIL.
- ALKALINITY TEST :- IS CARRIED OUT BY PH PAPER STRIPS.
- SPOT TEST :- THE SAMPLE OIL DROP IS DROPPED ON THE BLOTTER PAPER AND LET IT BE DRIED OUT. NOW THE SPOT IS COMPARED WITH THE STANDARD REFERENCE SPOTS TO DETERMINE THE CONDITION OF THE OIL.
- SEA WATER CONTENT :- ADD 5 ML OF OIL SAMPLE TO 5 ML OF DISTILLED WATER. THE WATER GETS SEPARATED. NOW ADD 3 TO 5 DROPS OF MERCURIC THIOCYNATE AND AN IRON SALT IS ADDED TO 1 ML OF SEPARATED WATER. CHLORINE IONS REACT TO FORM REDDISH ORANGE MIXTURE.
- MICRO BIOLOGICAL TEST :- A NUTRITIVE GEL IS APPLIED IN A GLASS SLIDE AND DIPPED IN OIL SAMPLE FOR 12 HOURS. IF RED SPOT APPEARS ON SLIDE IT IS THEN COMPARED WITH REFERENCE GUIDE.
