PROPERTIES OF BEARING

  1.  MATERIAL COMPOSITION SHOULD PROVIDE STRENGTH AND DUCTILITY TO ENDURE THE SERVICE LOAD WITHOUT SHOWING SIGNS OF DEFORMITY, YIELDING AND CRACKING.
  2.  IT SHOULD WITHSTAND MAXIMUM DYNAMIC LOADING WITHOUT CAUSING OVERHEATING OR FAILURE.
  3. IT SHOULD HAVE LOW MELTING POINT AS ITAVOID SEIZURE IN EXTREME HEATING, BUT IN MODERATE TEMPERATURE IT WILL CAUSE WIPING AND HENCE ADJUST ITSELF PROVIDED LUBRICANT SUPPLY IS NOT HINDERED.
  4. CONFORMABILITY :- IT MAKES BEARING SURFACE TO BED IN AND ADJUST ON HARD SPOTS AND EDGE LOADING.
  5. EMBEDDEBILITY :- IS A PROPERTY OF BEARING METAL WHICH WILL PERMIT INADVERTENTLY INTRODUCED HARD METAL TO SINK IN BEARING SURFACE AND THUS THE SURFACE OF JOURNAL WILL NOT BE SCORED.
  6. IT SHOULD BE RESISTANTTO ACID CORROSION
